The city of Cardiff is the country town of Glamorgan. It was a small town till the 19th century but its importance as a major port for transportation of coal and the arrival of industry raise it as a major city. It was made a city in 1905 and become the capital of Wales in 1955. The City has been governed by the city and County Council of Cardiff with its base at County Hall at Cardiff Bay.

It is also known for its parks and other green spaces covering almost 10% of the city area. It is one of the top ten retail destinations in the UK with three main shopping arcades and two shopping streets at Queen Street and St Mary Street.

Attractions There is a number of tourist attractions in and around the city. Sightseeing is a treat to watch, with magnificent civic buildings and historic Castle & architecture. The National Museum is one of the finest galleries.
