The city of Cardiff is the country town of Glamorgan. It was a small town till the 19th century but its importance as a major port for transportation of coal and the arrival of industry raise it as a major city. It is also known for its parks and other green spaces covering almost 10% of the city area. It is one of the top ten retail destinations in the UK with three main shopping arcades and two shopping streets at Queen Street and St Mary Street.
